Read MoreWhat's homeschool really like?
When I was a kid, I went to public school. So, when we decided to homeschool, I didn’t really have a clear picture in my mind what homeschooling really looked like behind the scenes. Sound familiar? If you’re wondering what homeschool is really like, too, watch this interview and see if it helps!
I Left My Teaching Job to Homeschool
After 14 years teaching in the classroom, I left public schools to become a full-time stay-at-home homeschooling mom and teacher to my own four rambunctious kids. I was tired of putting all of my energy and preparation into other people’s children. Plus, I really yearned for a slower pace of life and a pouring out of my talents and energy into the precious children given just to me by God. So, I jumped in…
What a change! I thought going from a classroom of 22 to only four would be a breeze. I thought my kids would transition easily and be delighted to be home. Boy, was I wrong! Homeschooling is one of the hardest things I have every done. It has challenged me at every level – but it is also one of the most rewarding.
There is nothing easy about homeschooling, but our children are worth our efforts. They are gifts from God and we are given the awesome responsibility of molding them into his glory. Homeschooling is a great aid to accomplish this goal. With any new adventure, you have to start somewhere!
Books & Papers & Pens, Oh My!
Organize with Workboxes
Nothing makes me feel crazier faster than books and papers thrown all over the house. I knew if we were going to homeschool, we had to have a system in place to handle all of the STUFF that comes along with it! Enter workboxes! I didn’t come up with it myself, I just adapted it for our family. Eight years later and the workbox system has remained a constant in our homeschool! See in the video? We use them so much one of the knobs broke off…and they keep right on ticking. Read the blogpost about workboxes for more insight! Simple. Effective. Game-changer. Even with a broken knob because, yep, this is real life.
