As a former Spanish kindergarten and pre-k dual-language teacher, I create all my materials in both English and Spanish with a strong focus on language acquisition. A great vocabulary is key to pre-literacy during the early childhood years! All of the materials can be used in regular mainstream English classrooms, but are fabulous for use with second-language learners, Spanish immersion classrooms, dual language settings, and homeschool or co-op use, too.
Halloween Lesson Plans & Thematic Unit for Preschool & Pre-K
This is an action packed, fun filled spooktacular 1-week preschool thematic unit of Halloween lesson plans and fun pumpkin activities. All materials come in English as well as Spanish, full color, and also black line. This unit is a robust 50 pages of materials! You’ll have plenty to keep your littles busy and learning! Using the fun Halloween holiday as a jumping off place for academics, this rigorous pre-k unit explores patterns, shapes, counting, sequencing, and ordinal numbers in math.
Language instruction centers around the famous “5 Little Pumpkins” poem and the classic, “The Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything” book as well as introducing several other delightful read-alouds. There are ideas for writer’s workshop and materials to teach Halloween vocabulary. Science exploration will focus on pumpkins with a super fun experiment carving and roasting pumpkin seeds!

Pumpkins Lesson Plans & Thematic Unit for Preschool & Pre-K
Other than the reference to Halloween in the 5 Little Pumpkins poem, this unit is strictly geared towards pumpkins, not Halloween Lesson Plans. Some districts don’t allow any reference to the candy-munching holiday, so this is perfect if you’re looking for lesson plans that don’t mention Halloween. This unit has lots of fall fun and a strong science base exploring the pumpkin life cycyle. Your kids will love it!
The hands-on unit includes a detailed 5-day lesson plan so you only have to make a few personalized tweaks and you are good to go! All materials are provided in both English and Spanish, in full color and in black & white.
Shared with the Halloween unit above, there is the super yum science project gutting a pumpkin and roasting the seeds. Mmmmm. They taste like popcorn! If you don’t have an oven in your early childhood classroom, I’ve always had great success with the school cafeteria allowing the class to come in to pop in our seeds for a few minutes. Both units also include the 5 Little Pumpkins poem and related activities. Otherwise, the unit materials do not overlap between the two units.

This bright & snappy book targets learning colors and Halloween vocabulary. There’s a Spanish version and an English version in one download. It is just what you need to introduce some fall fun while teaching new vocabulary and colors to preschool and young students or second language learners!
