Jesus as a Child – Bible Songs for Kids

Jesus as child

Welcome to Bible songs for kids about Jesus as a child. We don’t know much about Jesus as a little boy, but children love to imagine he was just their age. Some songs teach about Jesus at the temple at age 12 and Jesus growing in wisdom, too. All of these songs are simple and sung to familiar tunes for easy use at home, church, Bible class, and Sunday school.

Growing More Like Jesus

Tune: Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross

Looking upward every day,

Sunshine on our faces,

Pressing onward every day,

Toward the heavenly places.

Chorus:

Growing up, growing up

More and more like Jesus.

Learning from Him every day,

Growing more like Jesus.

J-E-S-U-S

Tune: BINGO

There was a family had a son,

And Jesus was his name, oh!

J-E-S-U-S, J-E-S-U-S,

J-E-S-U-S, and Jesus was his name, oh!

Jesus Building

By Thea Cannon

Tune: Mulberry Bush

When Jesus was a little boy,

His saw and hammer were a joy,

I like to build, it’s fun, I’ve found,

To saw-saw-saw and pound-pound-pound.

Jesus Grew and Grew – Luke 2:52

Tune: Farmer in the dell

Luke two, fifty-two,

Jesus grew and grew.

He grew in wisdom and so tall,

In favor with God and man.

Jesus Grew in Wisdom

Tune: London Bridge

Jesus grew in wisdom

wisdom, wisdom

Jesus grew up stronger,

He pleased God and man.

I can grow in wisdom,

wisdom, wisdom,

I can grow up stronger,

I please God and man.

Jesus is the Children’s Friend

Tune: Jesus Loves Me

Jesus is the children’s friend,

He is faithful to the end.

He will lead us all the way.

And protect us every day.

Jesus was a child like me,

My example here to be.

He obeyed his mother too

He was ever kind and true.

Jesus grew in every way,

Learned to love in work and play.

Grew in body, soul, and mind.

All we need in Him we find.

Jesus died our souls to save,

His salvation we may have.

Let us love Him more and more.

Till we reach that heavenly shore.

Chorus:

Our friend is Jesus.

Our friend is Jesus.

Our friend is Jesus.

He loves each girl and boy.

Jesus in the Temple

Tune: Where is Thumbkin?/ Frere Jacques

By Barbara Wulliman

Here is Jesus, here is Jesus.
Growing Up, growing Up
Going to the temple, going to the feast,
He is 12, he is 12.

Where is Jesus? Where is Jesus?
Is he lost? Is he lost?
Everyone is looking, Everyone is looking
Where is he? Where is he?

In the temple, In the temple
He is there, He is there
Talking to the teachers, Talking to the teachers
In God’s house, In God’s house.

Jesus Was a Child Like Me

Tune: Mulberry Bush

Jesus was a child like me,

child like me, child like me,

Jesus was a child like me,

He liked to run and play.

Jesus was a good helper,

good helper, good helper,

Jesus was a good helper,

for Mary and for Joseph

Jesus studied from God’s word,

from God’s word, from God’s word,

Jesus studied from God’s word,

at home and at the temple.

Jesus always did obey,

did obey, did obey,

Jesus always did obey,

his mother and his father.

I want to be a child like him,

child like him, child like him,

I want to be a child like him,

I want to be like Jesus.

Oh, How I Love Jesus

Tune: traditional hymn, public domain

There is a name I love to hear,
I love to sing its worth;
it sounds like music in my ear,
the sweetest name on earth.

Chorus:
O how I love Jesus,
O how I love Jesus,
O how I love Jesus,
because he first loved me!

Where Has Our Little Son Gone?

Tune: Oh Where Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?

By Amanda Wilson

Oh where oh where has our little son gone?

Oh where, oh where can he be?

We’ve looked everywhere,

Over here, over there,

Oh where, oh where can he be?

Oh why, oh why were you looking for me?

Oh why, oh why so concerned?

Did you not know

Right where I would go,

My Father’s house is for me.

Oh what, oh what, does God’s word say?

Oh what, oh what does it mean?

He was listening and

Asking questions, too

Oh what, oh what does it mean?
