GiBoard Review – yes or no?

What is a GiBoard?

A GiBoard is a modern slackline balance board.  A balance board, or balance trainer, is a fitness device used in athletic training, muscle training, therapy, or recreation.  But this one is good for the whole family!

Not only do balance boards improve balance and coordination, they’re good for your brain, too!  Balance boards increase focus and help you manage your stress, too.  Plus, they’re just plain fun.

While many balance boards are unsteady wobble boards, the GiBoard stands out from the crowd because it is a safer alternative slackline balance trainer.

What is slacklining?

Slacklining is a popular workout method where you balance on a synthetic strap a few inches wide that is tensioned between two fixed anchors.  For the GiBoard balance trainer, the synthetic strap is 2 inches wide and just over 41 inches long.

What is a GiBoard good for?

It’s truly incredible how many different skills you can target with a GiBoard!  For beginners and kids, you can use it simply to work on balance and coordination.  Adults can do a full body workout targeting arms, ankles, legs, core, and back while still strengthening balance and agility.  A workout with this balance board will also increase flexibility and improve your posture, too.

  • Mobility
  • Coordination
  • Agility
  • Posture
  • Reflexes
  • Body awareness (proprioceptive training)

What can you do with a GiBoard?

A GiBoard is a wonderful gift for kids, but it’s also phenomenal for adults and even serious athletes.  It’s incredibly versatile.  Someone recovering from a broken bone or injury could also use a GiBoard for at-home physical therapy exercises, too.

You can do exercises like:

  • Balance drills
  • Core workouts
  • Low impact workouts
  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Dance

Serious athletes can practice skills related to

  • Skateboarding
  • Freestyling tricks
  • Slacklining
  • Snowboarding
  • Surfing
  • Martial Arts

How is the GiBoard made?

This thing is super sturdy and durable. It’s already set-up when you pull it out of the box.

It measures about 42 inches long and 11 inches wide.  Made from solid maple hardwood, the plank sits snugly along the floor while the ends curve up to almost 6 inches tall. It looks like a large skateboard or snowboard. Very sleek.

The 2-inch-wide synthetic slackline web runs between the ends and is tensioned with anchors on each end.  It comes with a tensioning rod and instructions on how to retention the strap so you can always keep it perfectly taut.  The GiBoard is available in several unique colors and designs, too.  This thing is built to last.

Although strong and sturdy, the board only weighs about 9 pounds and is completely portable! Which means you can easily move it around the house or take it with you to the gym. Or if your work requires you to sit all day, take it to the office for standing desk exercise.

Who can use a GiBoard?

The GiBoard is a slackline balance board truly for kids from 1 to 92.  In fact, the best thing about this product to me as a mom is that my kids can use it, but I can, too.  It’s so versatile and simple to use that children, parents, older adults, and even athletes can all benefit from it.

It supports users up to 400 pounds, but it easy to use and intuitive for both kids and adults.

On the GiBoard website, they offer free instructional videos for beginners as well as fundamental skills, advanced skills, and tricks. I’ve heard it is also great for serious athletes wanting to work on their snowboarding and skating freestyle tricks, too, but that’s not something I could test!

How safe is a GiBoard?

The GiBoard balance trainer is a much safer alternative to traditional see-saw wobble balance boards.  It is not a lever, but a slackline board – like a balance beam.

Since the slackline is only a few inches off the floor, the GiBoard is safe even for really young children.  If they fall off, it’s no big deal.

My preschooler was attracted to it like honey and can easily step up and work on her balance and motor skills.  In fact, we’ve just been leaving it out in the kitchen and one or the other of the kids is forever stepping up on it and practicing their balance for a few seconds. The kids also like to use it just for bouncing and jumping on, too, like a mini indoor trampoline that takes up way less space.

Balancing on it initially was more challenging than I had imagined. But after working on it everyday, I’m already improving and seeing the benefit.

GiBoard Review – Fitness for the whole family

One of the GiBoard videos calls it “low risk high reward” and that pretty much sums it up.  The GiBoard makes fitness fun, safe, and engaging for people of all ages.  It’s the ultimate family gift that everyone can share.

This balance board was a big hit.  Thank you, Santa!
