A New Year is a great time to kick-start your family Bible devotions. The only question is – what to study? Are you looking for options for your family Bible study for the new year? I’ve rounded up four of our family’s personal favorite family Bible devotions books that we have used and loved. These are kid tested and parent-approved Bible studies that will lead you and your little ones closer to God as your model for them the all-important task of learning to study the scriptures. There’s no better time to get started in family Bible devotions than now. Designed to last several weeks each, these books will make family Bible devotions easy so they will actually happen in your home.
Check out these four family Bible devotions options we’ve enjoyed:
1. Cold-Case Christianity for Kids: Investigate Jesus With a Real Detective
Specifically written for children, this upbeat and interactive family Bible study by J. Warner and Susie Wallace teaches kids the hard facts about the truth surrounding the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I chose this family Bible devotions book when one of my kids was questioning his faith and it was a fabulous way to show kids that it is ok to examine evidence, test the facts, and ask big questions.
God can handle our doubt and there is no question too big to ask. The scriptures can hold up to any and all scrutiny with full assurance! This book helps kids look at the claims of Jesus from the point of view of a detective. There is also a free printable workbook online to go along with the lessons. The book includes an introduction and 8 chapters. When we used this book for family Bible devotions, I think we broke it up and covered each chapter over 2-3 days.
2. My Brother’s Keeper: Learning to Love Your Siblings God’s Way
Author Kim Sorgius from Not Consumed is one of my favorite online champions for teaching kids about faith in the Lord. In this family Bible study designed for kids, she addresses how to get along with and love siblings. This was a fantastic study! The workbook is laid out with 20 lessons – 5 lessons a week for 4 weeks. Kids can write in the pages and follow along as they open up their Bibles and learn to study from God’s word about love within a family. After all, God designed the home as the best place to learn about love and relationships. There are three versions of the workbook, one for young children ages 4-7, a junior version for ages 8-12, and a youth version for teens. You can purchase the workbooks as a physical copy or a digital download.

3. Our 24 Family Ways: Family Devotional Guide
Written by Clay Clarkson, this book is packed-full of Bible instruction and family Bible devotions for many ages. There are 24 weeks of lessons – 5 lessons a week – for a total of 120 devos. The lessons are compiled of statements that define our family ways concerning authority, relationships, possessions, work, attitudes, and choices. Each lesson begins with asking questions, reading the Bible, discussion, then prayer. There are also recommended memory verses. It is a true grab-and-go devo book, designed so parents can just pick up a Bible and the book without any preparation and be instantly ready for family Bible study time. There is also an additional coloring book you can purchase that goes along with the devos so your little ones can stay engaged.

4. ABC Bible Memory Verses
Start off the new year of family Bible devotionals with an emphasis on memorizing God’s word! This free download contains one memory verse for each letter of the alphabet and a handwriting sheet as well. The Bible verses focus on the majesty and goodness of God the Father and Jesus the Savior. When we used this as our family Bible devotions series, we memorized one verse each week, so the series lasted for 26 weeks – or a bit longer if you leave some room for review. In fact, the exact schedule we used to make it fit perfectly into our 36-week school year is included so you can make it work for a school year study. Or, if you chose to dedicate two weeks to learning each verse, that would take you through 52 weeks for the whole entire calendar year! In addition to memorizing the verse, we spent time each day discussing the scripture as well as making up motions or drawing pictures to understand the meaning. Then, we commited it to memory.
I have another post that goes into exactly how we used this as a family Bible devotions study if you want more details.. This is a delightful and impactful family Bible devotions series if you have preschool, kindergarten, or 1st grade children just learning their alphabet, but it is meaningful for kids (and adults) of all ages. I actually really benefited myself from memorizing the verses along with the children! If you continue to practice each previous memory verse each week, your child will be able to rattle off 26 memory verses ABC by the end of the series! The 96-page digital download is completely free when you subscribe to my newsletter – along with a whole host of other freebies. Just sign up below and it will be emailed to you!
Whatever you choose, the New Year is a great time to begin a family Bible devotions time. What could be better than spending quality time together in God’s word and teaching your little ones the daily habit of quiet time with the Lord?
