One of our favorite family holiday traditions is our annual Christmas lights scavenger hunt. Looking at holiday lights and blow-ups is always fun, but it’s even more delightful when you give the kids a specific task. Last year I created this Christmas Lights Scavenger Hunt for my crew and we had so much fun with it!
Then I had to wait a whole year to share it with you. Yay! It’s finally time!
I still have some pre-readers in my house, so I made our Christmas Scavenger Hunt usable for kids whether they can read or not with adorable, easy-to-understand pictures. It’s perfect for kids from 1 to 92!
Download it for FREE, print it out, then jump in the car for a fun-filled family evening!
That’s it! But if you want to make it even more special, try this:
Christmas Pajamas
Jump into your jammies! On this nighttime ride, you won’t be leaving the car, so snuggle up in your favorite, cozy winter PJs and enjoy the lights!
Hot Cocoa
Bring along some hot coca in a thermos or drive through Starbucks before you begin. This Christmas lights scavenger hunt is much more fun with hot chocolate!
Clipboards & Pencils
Wiggly kids have a way of losing their papers, so clipboards are a must! Don’t forget to grab several pencils, too. You may want to stash a few tiny flashlights to more easily see the Christmas lights scavenger hunt in the dark as well.
Prizes for Christmas Lights Scavenger Hunt
Make the evening even more fun with prizes! Hit the dollar store for tiny Christmas erasers, pencils, or stickers. The download has four different versions of the Christmas Lights Scavenger Hunt so you can have multiple ways to play. You can use it like a BINGO board and see who gets a BINGO first or go for black-out and try to find everything on your list. We like to try to find it all!
3-D Christmas Lights Glasses
If you want to shake things up a bit, there are silly 3-D Christmas glasses you can find at stores that distort Christmas lights into funny shapes. You can often find these at dollar stores but Amazon carries them, too.
Bonus
For copyright reasons, I wasn’t able to include Disney or other licensed characters on the Christmas lights scavenger hunt, so feel free to add them as bonus items. Scribble them on the back of the paper and see which child can spot them first. Popular characters for Christmas lights and blow-ups include Mickey & Minnie, Pooh, Olaf, and Snoopy.
Have fun! Go crazy! You could even stop and do a Chinese fire drill (well, if you’re past the car-seat phase of life, maybe).
