Start your school year with this back-to-school blessing for homeschool moms.
It’s Labor Day and that means one sure thing: everyone across the country is back to school!
Whether you started a few weeks ago or are just beginning this week, back-to-school season is an exciting time of new beginnings.
As a homeschool momma, I get really excited about heading back-to-school, but a little nervous, too. Just like you, I want to be the best mom and an amazing teacher. But being a homeschool mom isn’t easy.
So, as is my custom, I turn to scripture for encouragement.
As I was studying my Bible recently, one verse really jumped out at me and spoke to my heart. I hope it speaks to yours as well!
A Back-to-School Blessing for Homeschool Moms
In these profound words of Moses, he shares how he felt about teaching the children of Israel. It beautifully demonstrates both his hopes for them and his own determination.
His words really resonated with me. It felt like the cry of my own heart in asking the Father to bless my efforts for my children as their teacher and mom.
May my teaching drop as the rain,
Deut 32:2-3
my speech distill as the dew,
like gentle rain upon the tender grass,
and like showers upon the herb.
For I will proclaim the name of the Lord;
ascribe greatness to our God!
Three Take-aways for Moms
I love this verse so much. Three big take-aways jumped out at me as a homeschool mom and I hope this back-to-school blessing resonates today with YOU as well.
May you…
1. Teach with little drops of rain
Little drops of rain eventually accumulate! Just little teachings and insight every day add up. This is true both spiritually and educationally. Kids don’t need us to overwhelm them with too much work all at once. A little bit each day, slow and steady, is the way to a great education! Similarly, a little bit of spiritual instruction day by day will fill their hearts with the knowledge of God.
2. Be gentle
Kids may not remember all the facts we teach them, but they will remember that they felt safe and loved in our homeschool. They will cherish the memories of these days spent with mom if we are gentle, understanding, and compassionate. After all, they are “tender grass” that needs loving-kindness, not harsh words or unfair dictates. Gentleness is a gift you give to your children.

3. Proclaim God
More than anything, I want to proclaim God to my kids in our homeschool. After all, being able to include spiritual instruction in our children’s education is one of the main reasons we decided to homeschool. I love that we can discuss the Creator in science, see God in history, and incorporate the Lord into all aspects of our homeschool! I love that we can read scripture together and have Bible devos over lunch time. For me, those are some of my most treasured moments of homeschooling, and I hope one day they will be memories my children look back on fondly as well.
